Online tutoring has opened new vistas not only for students but also for tutors who are willing to work a bit extra and earn good rewards. In fact many of the tutors are actually earning their living by working as an online tutor. If you have an area of expertise and a desire for some extra income, if you are good with concepts and like to work with students from K-12 then you have an opportunity to make some money on the side (or even full-time) from the comfort of your home.
Online tutoring is a fast-growing industry and many companies are foraying in to this business. As a result requirements for the tutors are also increasing quite sharply. The rate at which companies like 24hourstutor.com are growing there seem to huge demand for tutors. In fact they are open for hiring for the whole 12 months. The major benefit of becoming an online tutor is that students can achieve the same results of an in-person tutoring session – except you can both do it from home. No commuting through snowstorms, no appointments missed because of traffic, and environmental expenses of transportation are reduced too (as an added bonus). Before assigning any live class to any tutor, they have to undergo a training that includes technology training, soft skills training, curriculum training etc..
Generally tutors use the following tools during an online tutoring session:
Instant messaging
Interactive whiteboard applications
File sharing
Chat mechanisms
Although you can work part time or full time as a tutor, most people do it on a part time basis. And although it’s casual work, it can’t be treated casually. You are usually required to be available for your students consistently week to week throughout the school year.
Some of the requirements expected of you include (not all apply, depending on the organization):
University degree or equivalent Professional designation
Background checks

“Learning is a continuous process” it’s an universal truth that we all know, what we don’t know is that Learning has come a long way since the first schools began to the introduction of text- books and classrooms. Now, learning has taken a new dimension, it is gradually shifting its base from physical classrooms to virtual classrooms. Learning is now taking place in virtual environment i.e. on Internet with the help of various tools like web 2.0, collaborative technologies etc. All this has opened many new frontiers for educators and education seekers. Believe it or not, it is possible for a 2nd grade class to take a field trip from Birmingham to London! All through virtual connection by using the computer or E – learning.
But how did all this E learning come to pass? Well as time went on and more and more people were able to connect to the Internet, more research and development went into E –learning.
Researchers began looking at different ways of using technology to help people learn as well as send emails and do other things by using the Internet access. And with the introduction of more software and E learning solutions such as web meeting tools and other vital file information things began to move even faster for the Internet and the idea of E –learning stayed on the minds of those who were in the field of learning and technology.
Soon, many online education portals started to flood Internet, they were doing it with the help of technology like web meeting software which are extremely easy to use and create a real time environment for those who seek education on Internet. This all is so efficient that it has created a whole wave among the new generation to opt for e-learning rather than more traditional ways like hiring personal tutors or going to coaching centers. Moreover this all is coming at such a price whereby anyone can afford it.
Then web casts and animation was created as well as better graphics to eventually the web cams allowing virtual tours and field trips or other world wide things no one thought would be possible, but with E Learning it was true and possible to achieve.
There are some other educational tools like simulations etc that are used in virtual life for the education purpose, though the credibility of these are remains to be seen.
On an average out of every ten homes in the UK today eight out of those ten have computers and access to the Internet so E learning is definitely here to stay.
Now we have real time capabilities and other sources beyond even our own comprehension unless we are the researchers and developers of a lot of the concepts of the computer and the Internet. E learning is a good tool, and one that simply keeps getting better and improved all the time.
I came across an educator named 24hourstutor.com who uses these collaborative learning tools for providing tutorials to its customers.

Online tutoring is more beneficial than physical classroom teaching as it is more focused on an individual’s requirements with less or no interruption at all as provided by 24hourstutor.com. Personalized lesson plans have made online tutoring even more helpful for the students because every individual has his own learning style and pace. Plus, it saves from the hassle of traveling or arranging for a private tutor thereby saving a lot of time and money. All you need is a high speed internet and a headset and you are all set for online tutoring.
Imagine a child in the middle of his homework/test preparation at home and all of a sudden gets stuck or faces troubles understanding a concept. Arranging for a private tutor is time consuming and expensive. Online tutoring is what you need at that point of time. In recent years online tutoring has brought online study to a new dimension. Getting tutored over the internet is quite an intriguing concept for students as well as parents. It is a unique interactive platform that enables students to get the individual attention in their studies. Now students can connect to an online tutor anytime anywhere. Because of its one to one nature absolute focus of the tutor on the learner is ensured. What is online tutoring? It means imparting or receiving help or assistance over the internet to/from someone who may be sitting across borders. 24hourstutor.com allows student to connect to real tutor via Internet, converse using a voice messenger and also share a common online whiteboard, which is similar to a classroom blackboard.
Parents may now avoid doing much of the legwork in finding a good tutor to help their kids compete in the strenuously competitive environment. Online Tutoring is as easy as shopping online.

Official Linden Blog
There is a sudden surge in the demand of online tutoring in countries like
USA & UK.
Online tutoring has gained unexpected popularity and the primary reason is the ever increasing usage of computers and Internet worldwide. Online tutoring works much the same way as the traditional one-on-one physical tutoring does.
With increased connection and data transfer speed students and tutors can now engage online at the same time as in a physical classroom. Using some advanced technology, tutors can present material on their computer to students allowing students and tutors to work on the material on a “whiteboard” at the same time. The whiteboard is nothing but an online version of physical classroom blackboard and allows the tutor and student to write on the board in real-time. Both student and teacher can also talk to each other using VoIP services (Voice over Internet Protocol).
There are some basic traits that an online tutoring company must possess some of them are whiteboard (to draw and write in freehand which is very essential in case of subjects like maths, science and physics).
When a student is in the live online tutoring session, they feel like as if they are interacting in a real time classroom session, with a professional teacher on one side exchanging his/her vast pool of knowledge with students. Also it is very essential for a tutoring company to have well qualified teachers who should be able to understand student psych and in process would develop a very healthy and interactive relationship with the students, although the most important thing for the tutors is to be well versed with the curriculum of the students. Online tutoring sessions occur in real time i.e. tutors should be able to immediately respond to the student’s queries.
Though there are many companies that are coming up in India and elsewhere but as of my personal view I came across a company name 24hourstutor.com, which is providing unlimited online tutoring to all grades at very throw away price of just $9.99 per hour. Going by there website I found it to be a good e-tutoring company. I personally liked some of the features like anytime login and mentor services that were very distinct and appealing. 24hourstutor.com allows you to choose your tutor from their pool of world-class teachers who are present 24 hours for the students to guide them at every point where they might need them. At 24hourstutor.com they believe in delivering the quality education so that students can progress in their respective careers and not just to provide education for the heck of it.
24hourstutor.com provide 1-hour free demo class for the students so that students can actually evaluate the teachers and their technology on there behalf. They are determined to make online tutoring available to every student who needs personalized tutoring but can’t afford it due to the high charges.

In layman terms if there is anything that can be done over the Internet can be done in India and tutoring is one such business. I recently came across a company in India that is 24hourstutor.com. This is a really interesting it offers families in North America and Europe a pretty compelling financial deal: tutoring in mathematics, English and Science for $9.99 per hour.
The tutors conduct online sessions with their students that include the ability to speak to one another via VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) and to share an electronic whiteboard that gives a real time classroom feeling.
The deal certainly seems good for customers. Rather than pay local tutors $40 to $50 per hour session, they get all they can consume for $9.99 per hour.
Most of its customers come to it via word of mouth.
The company faces some stiff challenges. How does a new company like 24hourstutor.com convince people in the US and UK to shell out $9.99 per hour for tutoring over the Internet? It’s all so new and unproven. But looking at the speed at which online tutoring companies are growing, it seems the parents are ready to trust a foreigner to teach their children.
